Here’s news of an important event I’m taking part in this coming Saturday (March 14th) in Aberystwyth:
Networking for a more just and peaceful world: now more than ever!
The Morlan, Morfa Mawr, Aberystwyth, Saturday 14th March, 2pm – 6pm
With politicians and the media warmly welcoming arms manufacturers to Wales, in the St Athan development and at other so called “centres of excellence”, how can civil society respond?
Join Jill Evans MEP and Cynefin y Werin on March 14th in Aberystwyth to consider a range of options.
Other countries operate successful “Peace Institutes”. The idea of establishing of such an institution in Wales is supported by a growing number of people. The meeting will explore what this would mean and how it might happen. Background:
Cardiff University/WCIA proposal…
The Scottish approach…
The Flanders Institute…
Other discussion points:
* Annual national activism festival;
* All Wales networking;
* Climate Camp Cymru;
*Opinion poll on attitudes to war, climate change and social injustice.
All welcome.
For more information and to notify us of your attendance, please email: info@cynefinywerin.org.uk.

Islam is a totalitarian ideology, not a religion. We know all we need to know about Islam: it is a vicious, narrow-minded, murderous, intolerant and an undemocratic cult – opposite of anything the west stands for.

How would the UK react if a large aboriginal group started launching frequent attacks? Would we react by peacefully letting them form their own nation where they would be free to continue to launch terror attacks?

Here they go, again – Mutt & Jeff! Religious hatred and racist ideology. Demonising other human beings so you can justify killing or ethnically-cleansing them. Go get a proper job, please.

Israel is a western-style democracy being pressured to make peace with a neighbor that has attacked it over and over and over.
Furthermore, people forget that the entire reason that the Palestinian people are displaced is that the entire Arab world declared war on Israel long before it was a nation.
How would UK react if a large aboriginal group started launching frequent attacks? Would we react by peacefully letting them form their own nation where they would be free to continue to launch attacks?
It would go a long way if people stopped seeing Israelis as so different from themselves. Regardless of their religion, Israel is a nation of modern Western-style life, and until people (like the other commenters here) see them as such, it will continue to be an ignorance dump for the masses.

The deluded, parallel world of right-wing Israelis and their allies. A state with a Foreign Minister who lives in illegally-occupied territory and wants to nuke Palestine.
I prefer to support the growing number of brave military refusniks and the large Israeli peace movement whose members, daily, suffer from intimidation by fascist thugs. Jill Evans works tirelessly with these people – ‘true Israel’ – and the occupied people of Palestine.

Iolo
When Palestinians realize that the only way to protest their situation is through nonviolence (i.e., Ghandi and MLK), then their situation will improve. So long as these idiots choose to continue lobbing rockets daily at a civilian population, they can expect to be invaded and bombed from time to time. If Mexico allowed the lobbing of thousands of rockets at US cities every year, you can be damn sure there would be overwhelming support for retaliation. And, just like with the most recent Israeli response, that retaliation would be justified.

The Palestinians already have three nations – Jordan, PA, and Gaza. That they have made of sewer of the latter two (PA, GAZA) is their own fault. That they have not made a sewer of the first (Jordan) is to the credit not of the Palestinians, but of the Hashemites.

Could one important difference between the two parts of Palestine and Jordan be that that former are occupied and besieged by Israel?
March 21, 2009 at 8:11 pm |
Sure, occupied by Jordan 1948-1967.

Iolo,
This isn’t about a “Palestinian” state. It is about getting rid of Israel. End of story. The “palestinians” are just as complicit in this atrocity as any member of Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. Israel could give up 99.9% of their land and these groups would still whine, moan, and groan at how Israel, i.e. “Da Man”, keeps them down. The two-state idea is a failed one. It cannot work, and will never happen for one simple reason, islam.

CIA World Factbook 2008:
Per capita Gross Domestic Product
Egypt: $5,500
Jordan: $5,000
Syria: $4,900
Gaza and West Bank: $2,900
Lebanon: $11,100
Israel: $28,900
Conclusions:
The more muslims, the lower the income.
Lebanon does a bit better because it has more christians.
When you throw in the welfare payments given the palestinians, the “future palestinian state” makes about as much money per capita as the surrounding arabs, and if they form a state and lose the welfare payments and the free water, gasoline, and electricity from the Jews, they will be worse off, not better. And they know that. Which is why they don’t just go ahead a declare a state. This way they don’t have to work, and receive free money from the Jew-hating goyim of the world to have arranged marriages with their 9 year old first cousins, and pop out kids to raise as jihadis to kill Jewish babies. Sweet.

If ‘Islam’ – by which I presume you mean fundamentalist Islam – is the problem, this was, of course, deliberately promoted by right-wing Israelis and their neo-conservative allies to undermine secular and then-popular Fatah. The latter worked hard for a just, two-state solution as did Israeli premier Yitzak Rabin (and we all know what happened to him – ask Leah).
And why do you assume that all Palestinians are Muslim? Many are secular, Christian, etc but the Israeli right really hates that fact. Just like they target peace-loving Israelis at home and the increasing numbers of their own soldiers with a conscience.
Oh, and isn’t Doha a Muslim state? Lies, damn lies and statistics.
